My branch originated in Gloucester England, made our way to Wales in the early 1900's and then to British Columbia Canada in 1967 and then to Alberta Canada in 1982.  I am always in the process of adding information to this site, so keep checking back as there may be information of  value in your research or for your Merriman Family. 

Did you know?

  • There are...70 Merriman households listed in New Zealand, 172 in Canada, 179 in Australia, 428 in the UK and...3019+ listed in the US! At a rate of 2.5 persons per household that works out to 9670 Merrimans.  Thats a lot of us Happy-people!

  • There were 50 Merrimans who gave their lives in WW1 and 21 Merrimans in WW2 from the British Commonwealth.

  • In 1881 there were 1480 Merrimans recorded living in England, Wales and Scotland  according to the Census for that region. See the information page listing each county.

  • According to the US Census for 1990 the surname Merriman ranked #4441, Merryman at #7076, Smith is most common at #1, Aalderink  is the least common at #88799

  • Sir Winston Churchill was a descendant of the Merriman's through his mother.

Here are the pictures from the hike in July 2000. Chief Mountain Border Crossing to Elizabeth Lake, Ptarmegon Tunnel, Red Gap Pass and then finishing at Many Glacier Camp Ground. 
My Hike in July 2001. Goat Haunt, Lake Francis, over Boulder Pass and then to Lower Kintla Lake. 32 miles over 6 days.
